Job Interview Tips – The Top 3 Questions You Will Be Asked and How to Answer Them

I’ve attended many job interviews and I’ve learned that no two people are alike. Some interviewers ask a pre-approved list of questions, while others have a “get to know you” style. Regardless of who you’re interviewing or the style of interview, being prepared will always help you have a good interview. To make sure you get the job, I’ve rounded up my top 3 interview questions and my best tips for answering them.

What interests you about our company/job?

This or a similar question may come up in most job interviews. The interviewer wants to know that you’re genuinely interested in the job you’re applying for, not just “just take any job.”

Before the interview, take the time to research the company and identify 2-3 things that interest you. These should be more physical things about the purpose of the company, for example, “you have a kindergarten” or “you are near my house.” If asked specifically about the position, indicate how it is similar or different to your current position and 2-3 aspects of the job that you enjoy.

* Tips: Check out the company’s website and look for their “Mission Statement”. If they have one, this will give you an overview of their core values. Try to relate your answer to their Mission Statement.

What is your greatest weakness?

A few years ago, this was a very popular question, and it is still used in some settings today. There is no right answer, but there are many wrong answers. Don’t try to turn a positive into a negative, like, “I’m very committed to the projects I’m assigned to,” or, as Barack Obama said, “I’m awesome.”

I actually like to highlight a “past” weakness and then talk about the steps you took to overcome it. “I used to have a hard time expressing my opinion when working in teams, but over the past few years I’ve realized how important my opinion is. I’ve learned by listening to other people’s opinions and giving constructive feedback to their ideas, it opens me up. a giving my point of view at the same time. It worked really well.”

What salary do you need?

This question is one of the most difficult to answer. You feel the pressure to respond, but you’re very worried (and rightly so) that you’re selling yourself short or asking too much.

Take that question and turn it into them. “If I am fortunate enough to be offered the position, I am confident that we will be able to agree on a suitable salary. I would also like to know about your benefits package, such as your health care coverage and salary matching , you give a 401k.” Then ask them, “What is the salary for this position?” ask that. Often, by turning the question back to them, you’re forcing them to provide you with what they expect to pay you.

The main thing to remember when interviewing is to stay positive. Don’t talk bad about your current or past jobs. Don’t point out all the crazy things your boss does. Don’t talk about how you went to 12 job interviews and still didn’t get offered. Be positive and be prepared.
